If you're using the Dexcom G6 or G6 Pro Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) System, you're in for a transformative experience in managing your diabetes. These systems provide continuous, real-time glucose readings every five minutes, designed specifically for individuals with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, including children aged 2 years and older. With the Dexcom G6 and G6 Pro, you can make informed diabetes treatment decisions without the need for fingersticks or calibration, although fingersticks are required if symptoms do not match the readings.

One of the standout features of the Dexcom G6 and G6 Pro is the ability to receive personalized trend alerts directly on your smart device. These alerts notify you when your glucose levels are trending too low or too high, enabling proactive diabetes management. The Alert Schedule feature allows you to customize a second set of alerts, tailoring them to your daily routine, such as setting different alert settings for work hours versus the rest of the day. You can also choose custom alert sounds, including a Vibrate-Only option on your phone, though the Urgent Low Alarm remains non-optional for safety reasons.

The Always Sound setting, enabled by default, ensures you receive critical Dexcom CGM Alerts even if your phone is set to silent, vibrate, or Do Not Disturb mode. This feature allows you to mute calls and texts while still being alerted to important glucose levels, including the Urgent Low Alarm, Low and High Glucose alerts, Urgent Low Soon Alert, and Rise and Fall Rate alerts. A Home screen icon indicates whether your alerts will sound. For your safety, certain alerts like the Urgent Low Alarm, Transmitter Failed, Sensor Failed, and App Stopped cannot be silenced.

Additional features enhance the user experience. The Share function lets you send your glucose data to up to ten followers in real time using the Dexcom Follow app, requiring an internet connection. Health Connect access allows you to share retrospective glucose data with third-party apps, and the Quick Glance feature enables you to view your glucose data on your smart device's lock screen. For those with Wear OS watches, integration with the Dexcom G6 system provides glucose alerts and alarms directly on your wrist. Note that the Share, Follow, Alert Schedule, Always Sound, Urgent Low Soon Alert, and Rise and Fall Rate alerts are not available on the Dexcom G6 Pro System.
