Application Description

The Hang is a captivating musical instrument classified as an idiophone, originating from Switzerland. Crafted from two half-shells of deep-drawn, nitrided steel sheet, these shells are meticulously glued together at the rim, resulting in a hollow interior and a distinctive 'UFO shape'. The upper surface, known as the "Ding," features a central 'note' surrounded by seven or eight 'tone fields,' all meticulously hammered into place. In contrast, the lower surface, called the "Gu," is a plain expanse with a central rolled hole that produces a tuned note when the rim is struck. This instrument is also referred to as a handpan.

The Hang operates on similar physical principles to the steelpan but is uniquely designed to function as a Helmholtz resonator. Its development stemmed from extensive research into the steelpan and various other instruments, showcasing a fusion of traditional craftsmanship and innovative acoustic engineering.
