Application Description
Japanese Mahjong is a captivating game that follows the traditional Japanese style of play. To navigate the game, players use a slider located at the bottom of the screen to select tiles. Once a tile is chosen, it can be discarded by tapping the slider, a crucial aspect of the game's strategy.
The objective of Japanese Mahjong is to complete a hand consisting of four Melds and one Pair. An example of a valid hand could be: [1, 2, 3][6, 6, 6][6, 7, 8][N, N, N][4, 4]. However, not all hands are valid if they involve Chi, Pon, or Open Kan. Players must be cautious, especially when considering Chi or Pon with the numbers 1 and 9, as these can lead to invalid hands.
In Japanese Mahjong, players need at least one valid hand to win. A hand can be declared by paying 1,000 points to declare Reach. However, Reach cannot be declared if a player has performed Chi, Pon, or Open Kan. A closed hand, one that has not used Chi, Pon, or Open Kan, can yield higher points.
Understanding the concept of a "Lost Hand" is essential. This occurs when a player is waiting to win but cannot do so by claiming another player's discard because they have already discarded a winning tile themselves. Even with a Lost Hand, self-draw remains a possible way to win. The key is to avoid winning with a tile discarded by another player, a move known as Ron. Players should never win with a tile that they themselves have discarded.
Strategic play involves reasoning through other players' discards to anticipate and complete your hand, aiming to win the game.
