The cult classic survival horror games, *Dino Crisis* and *Dino Crisis 2*, have been resurrected on PC through GOG, a platform owned by CD Projekt. These re-releases are part of GOG's Preservation Program, ensuring that both titles are available DRM-free and with their original content intact. Originally launched by Capcom for the PlayStation in 1999 and 2000 respectively, these games have been a nostalgic touchstone for many fans. While *Dino Crisis 3* made an appearance on the original Xbox in 2003, the series has remained dormant since, leaving fans yearning for more.
Despite periodic calls for a new entry or an HD remake, Capcom has shown little interest in reviving the series. The announcement of *Exoprimal* in 2022, a multiplayer action game featuring dinosaurs, seemed to dash hopes for a *Dino Crisis* revival. Furthermore, *Dino Crisis* creator Shinji Mikami commented last August that the success of Capcom's *Monster Hunter* franchise might be overshadowing potential plans for a *Dino Crisis* reboot or remake.
The PC ports of the first two *Dino Crisis* games were previously challenging to find and run on modern systems, making GOG's efforts particularly welcome. GOG celebrated the release, stating, "Thanks to the tremendous efforts of Capcom and GOG, Regina’s iconic line, 'You’re extinct!' no longer applies to the game itself. The timeless thriller that defined a generation of gamers is made to last forever, enhanced for today’s systems, featuring all the original content you loved with numerous improvements."
In addition to these re-releases, GOG has launched its Dreamlist, a community-driven tool where users can vote for games they wish to see revived or added to the platform. These votes help GOG gauge community interest and communicate this to IP owners, potentially bringing more beloved titles back to life on their platform.
