Take-Two Interactive, the publisher behind Grand Theft Auto VI, is increasingly confident in a Fall 2025 release. Let's delve into the details surrounding this anticipated release and the overall success of Take-Two's portfolio.
Grand Theft Auto VI remains on track for a Fall 2025 launch. During their Q3 Earnings Conference Call on February 7, 2025, Take-Two Interactive reaffirmed this timeline.
CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed optimism, acknowledging the inherent risk of delays: "Look, there's always a risk of slippage...as soon as you say words like 'absolutely,' you jinx things." However, he emphasized their positive outlook, stating they "feel really good about it." While remaining tight-lipped on development specifics, Zelnick highlighted Rockstar's dedication to excellence and the intense competition within the industry.
Zelnick highlighted 2025 as a pivotal year for Take-Two, citing several key releases: "Looking ahead, this calendar year is shaping up to be one of the strongest ever for Take-Two, as Sid Meier’s Civilization VII launched in Early Access today, with the official launch on February 11th, and we also plan to release Mafia: The Old Country in the Summer, Grand Theft Auto VI in the Fall, and Borderlands 4 before year-end." He expressed strong confidence in the commercial potential of these titles. Take-Two projects record-breaking net bookings in fiscal years 2026 and 2027.
The Grand Theft Auto franchise continues to dominate, with GTA V surpassing 210 million units sold globally. GTA Online also enjoyed a strong quarter, boosted by the "Agents of Sabotage" holiday update and the continued growth of GTA+, the subscription service (up 10% year-over-year).
Other Take-Two titles also performed exceptionally well. NBA 2K25 sold over 7 million units, showcasing increased player engagement. Red Dead Redemption 2, having sold over 70 million units, continues to attract new players, with record concurrent players on Steam (99,993 according to SteamDB).
Speculation has surrounded Steven Ogg, the actor who portrayed Trevor in GTA V, and whether he harbors negative feelings towards the character. In a recent interview on the Inside You podcast, Ogg clarified that he doesn't hate the character, but simply prefers not to be called "Trevor" outside of his professional life. He emphasized his positive experience and friendship with his co-stars. While he previously mused about Trevor's potential demise in GTA VI, he confirmed he hasn't been involved in any recording for the upcoming game.
Grand Theft Auto VI is currently slated for a Fall 2025 release, though a precise date remains unannounced. Stay tuned for updates.
