Guide to Earning the Shooting Star Trophy in Monster Hunter Wilds

May 14,2025 Author: Aaron

In *Monster Hunter Wilds*, while the thrill of hunting the largest and most fearsome beasts is a staple, there's an achievement that shifts the focus to the smallest of creatures. If you're aiming to unlock the 'I Caught a Shooting Star' trophy/achievement, here's your comprehensive guide.

The 'I Caught a Shooting Star!' hidden trophy/achievement stands out for its simplicity yet elusiveness. If you're not aware of it from the start, it might slip by unnoticed. To unlock this achievement, you must capture a unique endemic life form in the **Windward Plains** known as the **Sandstar**. This tiny creature, resembling a desert mouse with a long tail and shimmering fur, is visible only at night in a specific part of the region.

Given that you typically explore the Windward Plains during the day in the story, you'll need to wait until nightfall. Here are two methods to pass the time:

  • Fast Travel – Available early in the game once you unlock different fast travel points in the Windward Plains. Use your interactive map to fast travel between points until nightfall.
  • Rest – After completing Chapter 3 and unlocking high-rank content, you can rest at a base or pop-up camp. Use your Guild Points to choose the time of day (Morning, Daytime, Evening, or Nighttime) and environmental conditions (No Change, Fallow, Plenty, or Inclemency).

The Sandstar is not only small but remarkably fast, even when you're sprinting on your Seikret. Before you start the chase, consider gathering **Screamer Pods**, which can be obtained from **Baunos**—small, red-bodied winged monsters found in the Windward Plains. They roam in groups around **Area 11** and **Area 13**, scavenging carcasses. While not mandatory, Screamer Pods will significantly ease your task.

Once it's night in the Windward Plains, head to the midpoint between Area 11 and Area 13 and keep an eye out for the Sandstar. Upon spotting it, chase at full speed and, if you have them, ready your Screamer Pods. When close enough, **shoot a Screamer Pod at the Sandstar to stun it**. Quickly switch to your **Capture Net** (used for fishing as well) and throw it at the Sandstar to capture it. Upon successful capture, the 'I Caught a Shooting Star!' trophy/achievement will unlock, and you'll receive the **Ribbon Dream: Amber** nameplate for your Hunter Profile.

This guide covers how to unlock the 'I Caught a Shooting Star' trophy/achievement in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. For more tips and tricks, don't forget to explore our other guides, including how to skip cutscenes.
