Valve's official testing results indicate that Silent Hill f can indeed be played on the Steam Deck, though it falls short of being "verified". To achieve "verified" status, a game must seamlessly integrate with the Steam Deck's controls and display, passing Valve’s stringent checks for input, display, seamlessness, and system support. Silent Hill f, while fully functional with the default controller configuration and displaying Steam Deck controller icons, presents some challenges. The in-game text may be too small to read comfortably, and the game demands manual configuration to run smoothly on the handheld device.
This represents a significant step forward from the experience with the Silent Hill 2 Remake, which was initially unsupported on the Steam Deck despite efforts to enhance its compatibility. With Silent Hill f's release date still pending, there's ample opportunity for Konami to refine its performance on the Steam Deck.
PC System Requirements
Konami unveiled the PC system requirements for Silent Hill f on its Steam store page last month, offering insight into its compatibility with the Steam Deck. Below are the game's minimum and recommended specifications:
- Minimum Specs: An NVIDIA GTX 1070 can run the game at 720p and 30fps on Performance Quality settings. Given the Steam Deck's GPU, you might experience a performance dip compared to these minimum requirements. While playing at 720p on the Steam Deck might still be feasible, connecting to an HD TV could highlight any shortcomings. Konami recommends using an SSD for better performance.
- Recommended Specs: Choose between Performance settings at 60fps or Quality settings at 30fps, with an SSD being a necessity for these configurations.
