Following recent speculation sparked by cryptic social media activity, Hollow Knight fans received direct confirmation from Team Cherry's Marketing and Publishing Head Matthew "Leth" Griffin. Responding to a fan inquiry on X (formerly Twitter), Griffin confirmed Silksong's ongoing development.
The clarification came after fans misinterpreted Hollow Knight co-creator William Pellen's profile picture change depicting a cake as potential Silksong news. Popular YouTuber fireb0rn investigated these rumors, ultimately concluding the cake reference was simply a profile update.
Most significantly, Griffin confirmed "Yes the game is real, progressing and will release," marking the first official development update in approximately eighteen months.
Originally announced in February 2019 with a planned June 2023 release window, Team Cherry postponed Silksong's launch citing expanded scope and polish requirements. The sequel promises a new kingdom setting, approximately 150 unique enemies, and the innovative Silk Soul difficulty mode. With development now approaching six years since announcement, Griffin's recent acknowledgment marks a rare communication from the studio.
