Hollow Knight: Silksong Playable Version at Australia's National Museum of Screen Culture

The excitement surrounding Hollow Knight: Silksong has reached new heights as the much-anticipated game will feature a playable version at Australia's National Museum of Screen Culture (ACMI). This event marks a significant moment for fans who have been eagerly waiting since the game's announcement in 2019. The playable version at ACMI could differ greatly from the E3 2019 demo, which was more of a "proof of concept" than a final product.

Game Worlds Exhibition

The Game Worlds exhibition at ACMI, running from September 18, 2025, to February 8, 2026, will showcase a variety of iconic video games, including World of Warcraft, The Sims, and the Australian-developed Hollow Knight: Silksong. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to experience exclusive custom builds of these games, along with original design materials, concept art, and iconic objects.

ACMI co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell expressed their enthusiasm about featuring Silksong in the exhibit, stating, "Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September."

Insights into Silksong's Development

With details about Silksong being scarce since its announcement, the Game Worlds exhibit promises to provide fans with a deeper understanding of the game's world. The co-curators elaborated, "From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design."

Release Date Speculation

While the Australian event hints at a possible launch window for Silksong, no official release date has been confirmed. The game did appear briefly during the Switch 2 Direct, confirming a 2025 release window. Given that the exhibit runs until 2026, fans are hopeful that Silksong might launch as early as September 2025, within the exhibit's timeframe.

Platforms

Hollow Knight: Silksong is slated for release on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. To stay updated with the latest news on Silksong, be sure to check out our dedicated article.
