The Nintendo Switch 2's price is a major talking point across the gaming world. Industry analysts have informed IGN they anticipate a $400 launch price for Nintendo's next-generation console, and a recent Bloomberg report echoes that estimate based on predictions from Japan-focused experts.
A $400 price tag would be considerably more than the original Switch. Another analyst told Bloomberg they wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo set the price even higher, perhaps reaching $499. However, analysts still predict the Switch 2 will have an enormous launch, potentially the largest console launch ever, "regardless of price."
"They will sell a huge number of Switch 2 units in the first few months especially, almost regardless of the price," Tokyo-based analyst Serkan Toto stated to Bloomberg.

The Switch 2 is expected to be incredibly popular at launch partly due to a highly anticipated lineup of games. Toto predicts a new Mario Kart, as teased by Nintendo, a new 3D Mario title, along with the already confirmed Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4, all releasing within the console's first year. Toto also expects strong third-party support, including Call of Duty from Activision.
A lengthy list of rumored third-party games is reportedly coming to the console. In an interview with IGN, Civilization 7 developer Firaxis called the Switch 2's rumored Joy-Con mouse mode "definitely intriguing." French video game and accessories manufacturer Nacon, known for publishing titles like Greedfall 2, Test Drive Unlimited, and RoboCop: Rogue City, has confirmed it has Switch 2 games prepared for release. The long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong is also rumored for a Switch 2 launch. Last month, EA suggested that Madden, FC, and The Sims would be excellent fits for the platform.
It's important to note that Activision has not yet announced its plans for the Switch 2, and Nintendo has not commented on the report.
When will the Switch 2 be released? A June 2025 launch date is frequently mentioned, not just online but within gaming media circles. One Japan-based analyst, Robin Zhu of Sanford C. Bernstein, told Bloomberg the Switch 2 is anticipated for a June release, with an initial inventory of 6-8 million units. If Nintendo sells through that stock quickly, the Switch 2 could easily outsell its predecessor as well as the PlayStation 4 and 5, setting new records in the process.

Some concerns have been raised about how U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff policies could affect the Nintendo Switch 2's price. The Trump administration has enacted new tariffs in the United States on goods imported from China, Canada, and Mexico. Analysts cautioned that these tariffs could impact the cost, and potentially even the availability, of video games, consoles, and other tech products.
However, as Bloomberg highlighted, the Switch 2 will be assembled in Vietnam, a key U.S. trade partner, as well as in China. One analyst noted this diversified manufacturing strategy helps mitigate risk for Nintendo.
Many details about the Switch 2 remain unknown, but Nintendo has scheduled a Direct for April 2 where it plans to share more information about the console.
The Nintendo Switch 2 was first revealed in January with a short trailer that confirmed backwards compatibility and a second USB-C port. Most specifics, including other games and the purpose of the mysterious new button on the Joy-Con, were not disclosed, although the theory about a Joy-Con mouse mode became popular.
Last month, a Nintendo patent indicated the Switch 2's Joy-Con controllers might be attachable upside down. This suggests the Switch 2 uses gyroscopic mechanics in a manner similar to smartphones without screen rotation lock. Unlike the original Nintendo Switch, which used rails for Joy-Cons to attach and lock, the new controllers seem to use magnets, presumably allowing them to connect on either side.
While this won't drastically change the hardware, it will let players choose the placement of certain buttons, the headphone port, and other elements. If this feature makes it to the final product, the ability to flip the controllers could inspire unique gameplay mechanics.
