Phỏm Tá Lả - Tiến Lên Online is a beloved and traditional game among the Vietnamese people.

Phỏm, also known as Tá Lả or Tứ Lớ Khờ, is a classic Vietnamese card game, especially popular in the northern regions. "Tá Lả" is the southern name, while "Phỏm" is the northern term. The objective in Phỏm is to strategically collect and discard cards to form combinations called "phỏm" (melds) while minimizing the total points of unmelded cards. Using a standard 52-card deck and featuring diverse gameplay, this game is highly engaging. It is a staple at family gatherings and holidays, providing entertainment for relatives and friends.

Key Terms in Phỏm/Tá Lả

- Phỏm: A set of three or more cards of the same suit in consecutive order, or three or more cards of the same rank.

- Rác (Junk cards): Unmatched cards that do not form part of any Phỏm.

- Ù: When a player forms three phỏm (leaving no junk cards), they win immediately.

- Nọc: The remaining deck after cards are dealt to all players.

- Móm: When the game ends and a player has not formed any Phỏm => This is called "Móm".

- Ăn Chốt: On the final turn, a player discards a junk card that an opponent then picks up.

- Gửi: On the last turn, if your junk card can be added to an opponent's exposed Phỏm => You may "gửi" that card, and it will not be counted in your final score.

- Đền: On the final turn, if a player picks up the previous player's chốt card => and then another player immediately after goes Ù => The player who picked up the chốt must "đền" (compensate). The next player in line who picks up a chốt is then responsible for paying the first player.

+ Additionally, if a player draws three consecutive cards => it is also considered a compensation scenario.

- Tái: After playing your cards, if another player at the table makes a move that changes the board, the played cards are shifted and you are granted one additional turn.

How to Play a Game of Phỏm - Tá Lả

- Each game requires at least 2 players, with a typical maximum of 4. Each player is dealt 9 cards, except the dealer (or the previous winner) who receives 10. The remaining cards form the Nọc, placed face-down in the center.

- Play proceeds clockwise, starting with the player who holds 10 cards.

- Gameplay:

+ The first player discards one card => The next player may pick up that card if it helps form a Phỏm; if not, they draw one card from the Nọc.

+ After picking up a card or drawing, the player then discards one card => The next player has the same options: pick up the discard or draw from Nọc.

=> The round continues in this manner.

- The game ends when a player declares Ù. If no one does, the game concludes after four rounds, and scores from junk cards are tallied to determine the winner.

- In the final round: The player must reveal all their Phỏm, then send any sendable cards to other players' melds, and finally play their last card. The remaining junk cards are used for point calculation.

Scoring for junk cards when no one wins by Ù is as follows:

+ The player with the lowest score wins.

+ A, J, Q, K are worth 1, 11, 12, and 13 points respectively. Numbered cards are worth their face value.

+ Tie-breaker: If players have the same score, the one who revealed their hand first wins.

- Final scoring breakdown:

+ 1st Place: +6 points

+ 2nd Place: -1 point

+ 3rd Place: -2 points

+ 4th Place: -3 points

+ Player whose chốt was taken: -4 points

+ Player who took the chốt: +4 points

+ Player winning by Ù or Ù Khan: +15 points (each opponent loses 5 points)

+ Player who is Móm (Burned): Loses 4 points to the winner.
