Russian Checkers 8×8
In Russian checkers, played on an 8×8 board, the game starts with white moving first. Checkers can only move on dark squares, and capturing an opponent's piece is mandatory when possible. Players can capture both forward and backward, and kings have the ability to move and capture along any diagonal. The Turkish strike rule applies, meaning you can only hit an opponent's piece once per move. When multiple captures are available, you can choose any option, not necessarily the longest sequence. Upon reaching the opponent's back rank, a checker becomes a king and can immediately play as a king if the opportunity arises.
A draw is declared under several conditions, including when a player with checkers and three or more kings faces an opponent with one king and cannot capture it within 15 moves; when both players have kings and no captures or promotions occur over 30 moves for 4-5 piece endings or 60 moves for 6-7 piece endings; when a player with three pieces cannot capture an opponent's king on the "high road" within five moves; when only kings are moved for 15 moves without any simple checker movement or captures; or when the same position repeats three or more times with the same player to move.
International Checkers 10×10
International checkers, played on a 10×10 board, follows similar initial rules as Russian checkers, with white starting, movement restricted to dark squares, and mandatory captures in both directions. Kings maintain their ability to move and capture along any diagonal, adhering to the Turkish strike rule. However, the majority rule requires capturing the maximum number of pieces when multiple captures are possible. If a simple checker reaches the opponent's back rank during a capture sequence, it continues as a regular checker without becoming a king until the sequence ends. Once a checker reaches the back rank by a move or capture and turns into a king, it stops and can only move as a king on the next turn.
