Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Reiterates Support For The Switch 2, Saying Nintendo Has Been a 'Great Partner'

The partnership between Nintendo and Xbox is set to continue with the upcoming release of the Nintendo Switch 2. In a recent interview with Variety, Microsoft's head of gaming, Phil Spencer, expressed his ongoing support for the Switch platform. He emphasized the importance of reaching gamers who do not typically engage with PC or Xbox platforms.

"We think it is a unique way for us to reach players who aren’t PC players, who aren’t players on Xbox," Spencer stated. He highlighted Nintendo's role as a valuable partner in expanding Xbox's community and ensuring continued investment in their game franchises.

Spencer's enthusiasm for Nintendo's innovation was evident when he praised the Switch 2's initial teaser. He reaffirmed Xbox's strategy to distribute their games across multiple platforms, including PlayStation, Steam, and Nintendo consoles. This approach aligns with Xbox's goal to make their games accessible "in as many places as possible," including cloud, PC, and various consoles.

When asked if the Switch 2's reveal spurred any urgency for Xbox to announce new console plans, Spencer remained focused on Xbox's existing strategy. "I think all of us in this industry should focus on our communities and the player base that we’re building," he said, expressing admiration for other creators and platform holders while maintaining confidence in Xbox's future plans.

Games like Pentiment and Obsidian's Grounded have already been ported to Nintendo platforms, setting a precedent for future releases. As the Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to launch on June 5, 2025, it will be intriguing to see which Xbox titles will be available on this new console.
