Harrison Ford Doesn't Care That Indiana Jones 5 Flopped, and Joined Marvel For a 'Good Time'

Harrison Ford remains unfazed by the critical and commercial underperformance of "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," simply stating, "s**t happens." He revealed his decision to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe stemmed from a desire for a "good time."

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal Magazine, the Star Wars icon explained that despite his belief in the potential for another Indiana Jones chapter ("I felt there was another story to tell"), he's unconcerned about the film's negative reception and estimated $100 million loss. He elaborated on his motivation for returning to the role:

"When [Indy] had suffered the consequences of the life that he had to live, I wanted one more chance to pick him up and shake the dust off his ass and stick him out there, bereft of some of his vigor, to see what happened," Ford explained. "I’m still happy I made that movie."

This latest cinematic adventure doesn't mark the end of his involvement in major franchises. Ford has joined the MCU, taking on the role of Thaddeus Ross in the upcoming "Captain America: Brave New World," succeeding the late William Hurt. This iteration of Ross will feature a significant expansion of his character, including his transformation into the Red Hulk.

Ford clarified that his decision to join the MCU predated knowledge of this transformation, as he hadn't even seen a script for "Brave New World." His participation was driven by a sense of enjoyment:

"Why not? I saw enough Marvels to see actors that I admired having a good time," Ford commented. "I didn’t really know that at the end I would turn into the Red Hulk. Well, it’s like life. You only get so far in the kit until the last page of the instructions is missing."

"Captain America: Brave New World," slated for a February 14th release, is anticipated to be one of the shorter MCU films. This installment features Anthony Mackie as Captain America, replacing Chris Evans' Steve Rogers, and promises to incorporate lesser-known characters from Marvel's extensive lore, including a long-awaited payoff from "The Incredible Hulk" with the introduction of The Leader.
