Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con Now Supports Mouse Functions: Details Revealed

Apr 14,2025 Author: George

Since the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, fans have been buzzing with excitement over a specific detail spotted in the trailer: the innovative use of Joy-Cons. Speculation was rife about their functionality, particularly their potential as mouse controllers, akin to those used on a PC. Now, we have the official word: The Joy-Cons indeed feature a "mouse mode," enabling players to glide them across flat surfaces and use the analog sticks to mimic left-click and right-click actions, just like a conventional mouse. What's more, gamers can use two Joy-Cons in mouse mode simultaneously, one in each hand, or mix it up with one in standard mode and the other in mouse mode. This flexibility means your gaming experience is limitless.

During the Nintendo stream, the Joy-Con's mouse mode was showcased through a sports game reminiscent of Rocket League, titled "Drag and Drive." This game features robot characters maneuvering in wheelchair-style vehicles and engaging in a thrilling three-on-three basketball match. Players must utilize two Joy-Con controllers in mouse mode to navigate their characters across the court, aiming to score baskets with precision and skill.

The Joy-Con's mouse functionality was hinted at in the initial reveal trailer, where they were seen sliding in a manner similar to PC mice. This sparked a flurry of theories among fans. In an attempt to gather more details, we reached out to Firaxis, the developers behind Civilization 7, but received an enigmatic response. The introduction of features like the mouse mode and the new C button have sparked vibrant discussions over the past month, countering any notions that the Nintendo Switch 2 was taking a "safe" approach, contrary to Nintendo's tradition of innovation.
