The PlayStation Portal hasn't seen price drops yet, but you can grab a pre-owned unit at a discount. Amazon Resale (formerly Amazon Warehouse) currently offers Like New condition PS Portals for just $149.88 with free shipping, representing a 25% saving off the original $199 retail price. While Sony's warranty coverage may vary, Amazon Resale provides the standard 30-day return policy matching new purchases. These discounted units are expected to sell fast.

Sony's PlayStation Portal transforms your PS5 into a handheld gaming system, featuring an innovative design that combines DualSense controller functionality with an 8-inch 1080p LCD display. This streaming device delivers smooth 60fps gameplay directly from your console, maintaining all DualSense innovations including adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and a touch-sensitive replacement for the touchpad. While the Portal enables remote play outside your home network, consistent high-speed internet is essential. Remember - this isn't an independent gaming system but rather a dedicated PS5 streaming accessory.
Sony recently expanded the PlayStation Portal's capabilities, allowing direct streaming from PlayStation Now cloud service without requiring a PS5 console. The April beta update enables access to over 120 premium titles like Ghost of Tsushima and Spider-Man: Miles Morales when connected to Sony's cloud servers. Note that this feature requires PlayStation Plus Premium membership ($18/month), which proves more cost-effective than purchasing individual games at $70 each plus a $500 console.
While alternatives exist (like the PS Remote Play app on mobile devices), none replicate the seamless DualSense experience of Portal. Other solutions require more complex setups and sacrifice key controller features.
PlayStation Portal Verdict by Seth Macy
"The PlayStation Portal exceeded my expectations despite initial reservations. It delivers vastly superior performance compared to phone controller combos, offering genuine freedom to enjoy PS5 games anywhere with stable WiFi. As someone who often surrenders the TV to family Switch sessions, I've found unexpected value in this dedicated streaming device. While its complete dependence on PS5 hardware limits standalone functionality, the Portal currently stands as the premier Remote Play solution. My only reservations concern the lack of web browser login support for certain WiFi networks and missing Bluetooth audio - address these, and this would be essential for every TV-sharing PS5 owner who values handheld play."
