Amazon has introduced Alexa+, an advanced version of its popular voice assistant, now available in early access. This upgraded assistant is powered by generative AI, promising a more natural conversational flow. According to Amazon, "Alexa+ is more conversational, smarter, personalized – and she helps you get things done." This new iteration aims to enhance user interaction by making conversations feel more like talking to a friend.
Currently, Alexa+ is in its early access phase, exclusively available on select Echo Show devices: the Echo Show 8, 10, 15, and 21. If you own or are considering purchasing one of these devices, you can sign up for notifications to be among the first to try out Alexa+. After the early access period, Alexa+ will be accessible as a free benefit for Amazon Prime members or available to non-Prime users for $19.99 per month.

With its conversational approach, Alexa+ allows you to ask any question that comes to mind. It's designed to assist with a range of tasks, from managing your to-do list and retrieving calendar details to booking restaurant reservations. Amazon's Alexa+ Early Access page also hints at "new features being added regularly," suggesting that the capabilities of this upgraded voice assistant will continue to expand post-early access.
Unfortunately, not all devices are compatible with Alexa+. Older generation Echo devices, including the Echo Dot 1st Gen, Echo 1st Gen, Echo Plus 1st Gen, Amazon Tap, Echo Show 1st Gen, Echo Show 2nd Gen, and Echo Spot 1st Gen, will continue to use the original Alexa. However, Amazon plans to extend Alexa+ compatibility to more devices soon, including Fire TV, Fire tablets, and Alexa.com.
