A new trailer for the upcoming TV series Alien: Earth has emerged online, giving fans an exciting glimpse into what promises to be a thrilling addition to the Alien franchise. The trailer, which was first showcased at Disney's 2025 Annual Meeting of Shareholders and shared on the @CineGeekNews X/Twitter account, teases the desperate plight of a space ship crew as they battle a Xenomorph and hurtle towards Earth.
The trailer not only showcases a new Xenomorph design but also pays homage to Ridley Scott's iconic 1979 horror film, Alien. The setting inside a MU/TH/UR control room strikingly resembles the Nostromo's, evoking the chilling atmosphere where Ripley first uncovered the dire situation of her crew. In Alien: Earth, a crew member desperately seeks help while banging on a sealed door, only to be ignored by Morrow, portrayed by Babou Ceesay. Morrow coldly reports the escape of the "specimens," declares the crew dead, and sets the ship's course for Earth. The trailer then transitions to six soldiers approaching what appears to be the crashed ship, hinting at their grim fate.
This trailer raises several intriguing questions: Will Morrow survive? What drives his actions? Are there any other survivors, and has anyone been impregnated by the Xenomorph? How will the soldiers meet their end? These queries set the stage for Alien: Earth, which follows a mysterious space vessel's crash on Earth, leading a young woman (Sydney Chandler) and a group of tactical soldiers to a discovery that pits them against the planet's greatest threat.
Set in 2120, Alien: Earth is positioned within the Alien timeline, occurring after Prometheus and just before the events of Alien. This timeline placement has sparked fan theories that the series might explore the Nostromo's departure from Earth or reveal how Weyland-Yutani first learned about the Xenomorphs. Notably, the recently released interquel Alien: Romulus takes place between Alien and Aliens.
Showrunner Noah Hawley has previously discussed his decision to steer away from the Prometheus backstory for Alien: Earth. In an interview from January last year, Hawley explained his preference for the "retro-futurism" of the original films. Despite consulting with Ridley Scott on various elements of the Alien series, Hawley chose to distance himself from the bioweapon backstory, opting instead for the lore established in the earlier films.
Alien: Earth is set to premiere on Hulu in the summer of 2025. Additionally, Alien: Romulus 2 is currently in development, promising further expansion of the Alien universe.
