The legendary rivalry between Marvel and DC is taking an unexpected turn as the two publishing giants are joining forces for their first crossover comics since 2003's JLA/Avengers. And what better duo to bridge this unprecedented collaboration than the Dark Knight and the Merc With a Mouth?
As exclusively revealed by Entertainment Weekly, Marvel and DC are launching dual one-shot specials featuring these unlikely partners. Marvel will publish Deadpool/Batman #1, with acclaimed writer Zeb Wells (The Amazing Spider-Man) and legendary artist Greg Capullo (Batman) at the helm, while DC counters with Batman/Deadpool #1, penned by visionary Grant Morrison (Batman) with dynamic artwork from Dan Mora (Superman/Batman: World's Finest). Both issues will include bonus stories showcasing additional Marvel/DC team-ups.
This groundbreaking project marks the first official Marvel/DC crossover in over two decades (excluding Fortnite's Omniverse). The publishing houses have a rich history of such collaborations dating back to their inaugural 1976 crossover, Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man.
"These events become generational milestones for readers," DC's Publisher Jim Lee told EW. "The timing has to be absolutely perfect - we want these to feel extraordinary rather than routine. Coordinating between two competitive publishers involves complex logistics, revenue sharing, and creative alignment, but when everything clicks, the results become historic moments in comics."
The choice of Batman and Deadpool as flagship characters was no accident. Marvel Entertainment President Dan Buckley explained: "There's something inherently entertaining about these polar opposites sharing a story. You've got serious, brooding Batman bouncing off Deadpool's chaotic energy - it creates perfect comic tension. We wanted something that would excite longtime fans while bringing new readers into comic shops."

Deadpool/Batman #1 hits shelves on September 17, 2025, with Batman/Deadpool #1 following in November. EW's report also confirmed that Marvel and DC have already greenlit additional crossover one-shots for 2026, though character details remain tightly under wraps.
