Dragon Quest III: 2D Remake Unlocks Classic Adventure

For fans of classic JRPGs, Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake is a nostalgic trip back to the series' roots. However, its old-school difficulty demands careful planning. Here's how to conquer Baramos:

Master the Personality Test

At the game's start, you'll answer questions from "She Who Watches Over All." This determines your character's personality and significantly impacts stat growth. While you can alter personality later with specific accessories, restarting for your preferred personality is simpler. For optimal stat boosts, a female Hero with the "Vamp" personality is ideal.

Customize Your Party

In Aliahan, bypass Patty's pre-set party. On the second floor, speak to the counter attendant to build a custom team with classes Patty omits. This allows stat allocation and personality influence, creating stronger party members than Patty's initial offerings. Crucially, always include a Priest for healing.

Acquire Essential Weapons

Early-game equipment is pricey, so acquiring powerful weapons is vital. Seek the Boomerang (Dreamer's Tower, third floor chest) and Thorn Whip (Aliahan well, requires two Mini Medals from Morgan Minimann). Four Mini Medals are readily available early on. These weapons' multi-enemy attacks are invaluable, especially when equipped by the Hero and a strong character like a Warrior or Martial Artist.

Direct Party Actions

Many RPGs now allow direct party control, but Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake defaults to AI control. Change this in the Tactics menu to "Follow Orders" for greater control over your party's actions in combat. This seemingly small adjustment is invaluable during intense battles.

Stock Up on Chimaera Wings

Early enemies can inflict heavy damage. Fast travel is unavailable until the Zoom spell (usually unlocked around Hero level 8). Until then, keep Chimaera Wings (25 gold each) handy for quick travel to previously visited locations, even within dungeons. This is a lifesaver for protecting weakened party members.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is available on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
