Luke Yui, known for crafting co-op mods for titles like Elden Ring and Armored Core VI, shared a brief video on their YouTube channel yesterday. It highlights a two-player mod for Elden Ring Nightreign, enabling just two Nightfarers to team up instead of being limited to solo or three-player options.

It’s worth noting that, as of now, this mod is not publicly available or playable, but rather a short demo from Yui. They explained that the mod operates without connecting to the matchmaking server, allowing additional mods during gameplay but bypassing standard channels. Whether this evolves into a full solution or remains a fascinating experiment is yet to be seen.

While Elden Ring Nightreign supports solo or three-player gameplay, there’s no built-in option for two players; you’d need to either drop a friend for solo play or matchmake to find a third. This may seem minor, but for those who prefer gaming with just one friend, it’s a notable inconvenience.

This limitation has also sparked early criticism of Nightreign. The absence of a duos option has been mentioned in negative reviews, with players expressing frustration over the restriction. A user on the Elden Ring subreddit humorously noted that the Nightreign-specific subreddit feels like a “threesome sub” due to the flood of players seeking a third teammate.

In an interview with IGN, Elden Ring Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki admitted the team “somewhat overlooked the duos aspect” but is now exploring it for post-launch updates. Given the strong demand for a duos mode, it’s likely a priority they can’t ignore.
