After years of player requests, The Elder Scrolls Online introduces subclassing—a major update allowing deeper character customization. Discover how this feature transforms gameplay and what's next for ESO.
Latest Updates Revealed During ESO Direct
Unlock Over 3,000 Custom Skill Combinations

Marking its 10th anniversary, ESO announced subclassing during ESO Direct 2025—fulfilling a decade-long community request. Players can now mix skill lines without creating new characters.
The system activates at level 50, letting players keep one base-class skill line while swapping two others from any available class. This creates unprecedented build diversity with 3,000 possible configurations.

Game Director Rich Lambert confirms thorough balancing testing, stating: "While power levels may fluctuate, we're confident in the system's stability."
Worm Cult Storyline Expands Through Seasonal Content

ZeniMax shifts to seasonal releases for greater flexibility. Studio Director Matt Firor explains: "This approach lets us innovate while maintaining our storytelling standards—delivering content at a pace that benefits both players and developers."

The inaugural "Seasons of the Worm Cult" chapter concludes Molag Bal's decade-old story arc. Players explore the Isle of Solstice investigating the cult's mysterious return—though future seasons will run shorter at 3-6 months.
