Jul 31,2025 Author: Matthew

Almost three decades after its theatrical debut, Paul W.S. Anderson's Event Horizon is set to expand with a prequel. IDW Publishing introduces Event Horizon: Dark Descent, a five-issue comic series delving into the prelude to the film, uncovering the chilling fate of the original Event Horizon crew.

Dark Descent is penned by Christian Ward (Batman: City of Madness) and illustrated by Tristan Jones (Aliens: Defiance), with colors by Pip Martin (That Texas Blood) and cover art by Ward, Jeffrey Alan Love, Martin Simmonds, and Joshua Hixson.

IDW's official synopsis for Event Horizon: Dark Descent reads:

Maintaining the intense R-rated tone of the original film, EVENT HORIZON: DARK DESCENT #1 (of 5) rockets into comic stores this August. Set before the movie’s events and welcoming to newcomers, this gripping tale reveals the tragic end of Captain Kilpack and his crew. As their ship ventures through a horrifying realm of unimaginable suffering, demonic forces—led by Paimon, the eyeless King of Hell—unleash torment and evil in a haunting narrative.

“It’s an honor to expand on such an iconic film, one I deeply respect, and I have bold, thrilling plans in store,” Ward said in a statement. “Expect shocking, visceral moments that will forever change how you view the film.”

“Christian’s additions to the lore will catch readers off guard,” Ward added. “It’s given me intense, vivid material to work with visually, which is exciting, and collaborating directly with the film’s team ensures this is a must-read for fans.”
