FCC Filing Hints at Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller Upgrade

Apr 11,2025 Author: Christian

With less than 24 hours to go before the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, excitement is building as Nintendo prepares to unveil its plans for the next generation of its popular console. A recent Federal Communications Commission (FCC) filing, spotted on Famiboards and reported by Nintendo-focused outlets like GoNintendo, may offer a sneak peek at what's to come, specifically regarding the Switch 2's controller lineup.

The filing, dated March 31 and listed under product code "BEE-008," appears to be for a new game controller. Speculation among fans suggests that this could be the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller. However, it's important to note that this is just speculation, as Nintendo has not yet confirmed the existence of a Switch 2 Pro Controller. Features such as Bluetooth and NFC capabilities hinted at in the filing lend credence to the idea that this might be a Pro Controller.

One significant detail from the FCC filing that has caught the attention of enthusiasts is the potential inclusion of a headphone jack in the new controller. Unlike the original Switch Pro Controller, which lacked this feature, the inclusion of a headphone jack would align the Switch 2 Pro Controller more closely with competitors like the DualSense and Xbox Series controllers, offering a valuable quality-of-life enhancement for gamers.

While past Nintendo FCC filings have occasionally foreshadowed the company's future plans, we must approach this information with cautious optimism. Without official confirmation from Nintendo, all we can do is speculate until the Switch 2 Direct provides clarity. The Direct is scheduled to air tomorrow at 6am PT / 9am ET on Nintendo's channels, promising a "closer look" at the Switch 2 following its initial reveal earlier this year. The event is expected to last an hour and may shed light on a potential release date.

Additionally, Nintendo has scheduled two Nintendo Treehouse: Live | Nintendo Switch 2 presentations with hands-on gameplay for April 3 and April 4, starting at 7am PT each day. These sessions will offer further insights into the capabilities and features of the upcoming console.

As we count down the hours to the Switch 2 Direct, the gaming community eagerly awaits what promises to be a pivotal moment in Nintendo's history, potentially redefining the gaming landscape once again.
