We have our first glimpse at DC Studios' latest venture, "Lanterns," an upcoming HBO series featuring the iconic Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan and John Stewart. The series stars Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre as John Stewart, and although they aren't seen in their emerald green suits, a keen eye can spot the Power Ring on Chandler's hand.

"Lanterns" is set to be a detective drama, drawing inspiration from acclaimed series like "True Detective" and "Slow Horses." The plot follows Hal Jordan and John Stewart as they team up to investigate a murder, which unravels into a much deeper and darker mystery. This series is a part of James Gunn's expansive DC universe, which also includes "Creature Commando" and the forthcoming films "Superman" and "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow."
The show has been developed by Damon Lindelof, known for his work on "Lost," alongside Chris Mundy and Tom King. James Gunn has described the tone of "Lanterns" as "very grounded, very believable, very real," promising a narrative that challenges the typical expectations of a Green Lanterns series.
Kyle Chandler, renowned for his role in "Friday Night Lights," portrays an older version of Hal Jordan, while Aaron Pierre, who gained recognition from "Rebel Ridge," takes on the role of John Stewart. "Lanterns" is slated to premiere in 2026, aligning with the release of the "Supergirl" movie.
