Nintendo enthusiasts have a new reason to celebrate as the company opens its second official store in the United States today, May 15, located in San Francisco's Union Square at 331 Powell Street. This new addition, known as Nintendo San Francisco, follows in the footsteps of the iconic Nintendo NY store in New York, which underwent renovations and a rebranding from its previous name, the Nintendo World Store, before reopening in 2016.
IGN had the opportunity to visit the San Francisco store to explore what Nintendo has in store for its fans. Additionally, we had an exclusive sit-down with Nintendo of America's president, Doug Bowser, to discuss the strategic decision behind opening the first West Coast store at this time.
During our conversation, we couldn't help but delve into the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, set to launch on June 5. We asked Bowser about the availability of the Switch 2 in the U.S. at launch and beyond, as well as his thoughts on the controversial Game-Key Cards and other related topics.
