While often overshadowed by his more famous twin, Mario, Luigi has carved out his own niche, especially in the ghostbusting Luigi's Mansion series. Luigi's first starring role on the Switch came with Luigi’s Mansion 3, the third installment in his unique solo series. In this game, Luigi and his green gooey clone, Gooigi, join forces with Professor E. Gadd to battle ghosts and rescue their friends from King Boo's haunted hotel.
Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is a high-definition remake of the 2013 Nintendo 3DS game, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. In this second spooky adventure, Luigi explores the haunted mansions of Evershade Valley to capture King Boo and rescue his brother once more.
While not exclusively a Luigi game, Mario & Luigi: Brothership places both brothers on equal footing. This game marks the first new entry in the Mario & Luigi series since Paper Jam in 2014. Players control both brothers as they tackle puzzles and platforming challenges to restore the kingdom of Concordia.
Luigi made his first appearance on the Switch as a playable character in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. As a middleweight racer, he boasts a well-balanced stat distribution with a slight edge in speed and handling. His appearance in an ad for the original Wii U version of Mario Kart 8 even sparked the famous Luigi Death Stare meme.
Luigi's next adventure came with the Nintendo-Ubisoft collaboration, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. This tactical RPG features both Luigi and Rabbid Luigi, a Rabbid who mimics his human counterpart, as playable party members.
Luigi took to the court as one of 16 launch characters in Mario Tennis Aces. Known for his balance, Luigi excels as an all-around character, with his unique Pipe Cannon shot launching him into the air for a powerful spike.
Luigi is one of 20 playable characters in Super Mario Party. A staple in every Mario Party game, he joined his brother in this first Switch installment, which ranks as Nintendo’s ninth best-selling game on the platform, according to the company.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Luigi is an unlockable character and one of 12 characters to appear in all five Smash games. According to LumiRank’s 2025 tier list, compiled from the opinions of 93 ranked Smash players, Luigi is an A+-tier fighter and the 18th best overall.
Luigi is playable in the 2019 platformer New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, an expanded version of the Wii U game that includes the New Super Luigi U expansion. In this expansion, Luigi stars with his higher jump, remixed levels, and a 100-second timer per level.
Alongside Mario, Toad, and Toadette, Luigi is one of four playable characters in Super Mario Maker 2. This level-building platformer lets players create their own Mario levels using assets from various Mario games.
Like the original Wii U release, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury allows players to experience the entire game as Luigi. He controls similarly to Mario but with a slightly higher jump and less traction, giving him a more floaty and slippery feel.
Luigi joins Mario and friends on the golf course in Mario Golf: Super Rush. As one of 22 playable characters, he boasts excellent speed and decent control, making him perfect for the new Speed Golf mode. His special Ice Flower Freeze shot freezes the ground, creating a hazard for opponents.
Luigi returns in the second Switch iteration, Mario Party Superstars. Unlike Super Mario Party, Superstars is a compilation of minigames, boards, and mechanics from the series’ history.
Luigi is one of 16 playable characters in Mario Strikers: Battle League Football, the latest soccer/football game. Known for his technique, Luigi excels at dribbling, curving shots, and shooting accurately.
Luigi and Rabbid Luigi return in the tactical sequel, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope. Labeled a Sneak Attacker, Luigi uses ranged weapons and has low health.
In the latest 2D platformer, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Luigi is a playable alternative to Mario. The difference between them is purely aesthetic, as they play identically.
Luigi is playable in Super Mario Party Jamboree, the largest and arguably the best game in Nintendo’s party series. Beyond being a playable character, Luigi features in the new Buddy mechanic, potentially changing a player’s dice rolls to 10s.
