NieR: Automata - How To Get The Type-40 Sword

In NieR: Automata, small swords boast a rapid attack speed and compact hitbox, making them versatile weapons. While weapon upgrades enhance their longevity, numerous powerful weapons, such as the Type-40 sword, can be acquired and upgraded for significant power boosts. However, the Type-40 Sword is easily missed; here's how to obtain it.

Obtaining the Type-40 Sword

The Type-40 Sword is the reward for completing the side quest "Find A Present," the final quest in a series involving Operator 6O. Unlocking this quest requires completing two preceding side quests. Here's a step-by-step guide, including chapter selection points:

  1. After defeating Adam and Eve in Chapter 5, you'll receive a call from Operator 6O. Complete the "Investigating Communications" quest immediately; it's easily missed.
  2. Advance the main story through Chapter 6 (Forest Castle) and into Chapter 7.
  3. After speaking with Pascal about A2, explore the city ruins until you receive another call from Operator 6O, instructing you to check your inbox at an access point to begin "Terminal Repairs."
  4. While returning to the Resistance Camp during Chapter 7, you'll receive a final call from Operator 6O about flowers, followed by a message in your inbox.
  5. Interact with the message to start "Find a Present."
  6. Completing "Find a Present" rewards you with the Type-40 Sword delivered to your inbox.

The Type-40 Sword's stats: At level 1, it features a 5-hit light attack combo and a 3-hit heavy attack combo. Upgrading it to level 4 increases the light attack combo to 7 hits and enhances its effectiveness against stunned enemies. Titanium Alloy is required for these upgrades.

Additional Rewards for "Find a Present"

Completing "Find a Present" also yields:

  • A130: Bomb
  • Amber x 4
  • 5,000 G
  • 800 EXP
