Palworld's latest update, version 0.5.0, introduces a major feature: crossplay, allowing seamless gameplay across all platforms. This update is a game-changer, bringing players together from different systems for a more unified experience. Alongside crossplay, players can now store Pal data in the Global Palbox, enabling the transfer of Pals between different worlds. The new Dimensional Pal Storage system boasts a capacity ten times larger than the standard Palbox, and it's not just for guilds—players can use it as personal storage with customizable privacy settings.
The update also introduces a cosmetic armour system, allowing players to change their character's appearance without affecting armour stats, a feature known as transmog. A new photo mode adds a creative dimension to the game, accessible through the Pal Command Wheel, where players can hide the UI and capture stunning in-game screenshots. Additionally, the Drafting Table lets players combine low-rarity blueprints to create higher-rarity ones, enhancing their crafting options. Dedicated servers are now available for Mac users, further broadening the game's accessibility.
Developer Pocketpair has confirmed plans to introduce dedicated servers for the PlayStation 5 version in the future. Since its early access launch in January 2024, Palworld has attracted an impressive 32 million players. The studio has a robust content roadmap for 2025, including an "ending scenario" and more new features, ensuring continued excitement for fans of this popular creature-catching survival game.
Palworld launched on Steam for $30 and was immediately available on Game Pass for Xbox and PC, shattering sales and concurrent player records. The game's massive success led to overwhelming profits, which Pocketpair struggled to manage. To capitalize on this, Pocketpair signed a deal with Sony to create Palworld Entertainment, a new venture aimed at expanding the IP, including a launch on PS5.
However, looming over Palworld's success is a lawsuit from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, who allege that Palworld infringes on multiple patent rights. They seek an injunction and compensation for damages. In response, Pocketpair has identified the patents in question and made adjustments to how players summon Pals in the game. The studio remains determined to defend its position in court against these allegations.
