The buzz around a potential *Persona 4* remaster has intensified following the success of *Persona 3: Reload*. A screenshot shared by *Persona* YouTuber ScrambledFaz on X has sparked speculation among fans. The screenshot revealed that the domain “p4re.jp” was registered on March 20th. This move mirrors the registration of “p3re.jp” two years prior, which was followed by the announcement of *Persona 3: Reload* just a few months later. Could this be a sign that a *Persona 4* remake is in the works?
Originally released in 2008, *Persona 4* was exclusive to PlayStation 3 and 4. In 2012, *Persona 4 Golden* expanded the game's reach to PlayStation Vita and PC, introducing refreshed graphics and new content, including the town of Okina City and the beloved character Marie. However, *Persona 4 Golden* is not considered a full remake, much like *Persona 3 Portable*, which added a new protagonist and the Velvet Room character Theodore but did not overhaul the game to the extent of *Persona 3: Reload*.
What Would a Persona 4 Remake Look Like?
Should a *Persona 4* remake follow the footsteps of *Persona 3: Reload*, fans can anticipate a significant upgrade. The 2008 graphics of *Persona 4* are nostalgic, yet a remake would offer a much-needed modern touch with updated character portraits and enhanced animations for cut scenes. Additionally, a remake could expand on side quests and deepen character interactions, allowing players to further develop their social links. *Persona 4 Golden* introduced Okina City with its engaging activities, and a new remake might enrich this environment even further.
When Should We Expect a Persona 4 Remake?
In 2024, a credible Sega leaker confirmed that a *Persona 4* remake is indeed in development, although its release might still be some time away. Drawing parallels with *Persona 3: Reload*, an announcement could be expected as early as June, following the pattern set by the Xbox Summer Showcase in June 2023.
Meanwhile, Atlus has been dropping hints about *Persona 6* for years, yet almost a decade after *Persona 5*, a release date remains elusive. The potential *Persona 4* remake has raised concerns among fans, fearing it might delay *Persona 6* further, especially given the long-rumored development cycle of the latter. While some argue that *Persona 4* does not need a remake, the anticipation for what a new version could bring remains high.
