2023年，索尼推出了可外接的PS5光驱，作为其数字版PS5的周边产品。然而，2024年PS5 Pro发布后，这款配件的需求量激增。由于PS5 Pro不包含光驱，这款光驱成为想要升级硬件又不愿放弃光盘游戏的玩家的必需品。
然而，由此产生的PS5光驱需求激增，导致自PS5 Pro于2024年11月发布以来，光驱持续短缺，索尼自营的PS Direct网站难以维持供应。在英国等地区，黄牛囤积PS5光驱并高价转售，情况与2020年基础版PS5发布时如出一辙。这些转售光驱的高昂价格让玩家头疼不已，因为他们购买PS5 Pro主机本身已经花费不菲。
据PlayStation Lifestyle报道，截至目前，PS5光驱短缺问题依然存在，情况短期内难以改善。美国和英国的PS Direct官网仍然缺货，库存一到货便被抢购一空。一些第三方零售商，如百思买和塔吉特，为少数幸运玩家提供了PS5光驱，但这些零星的库存远不能满足大量玩家的需求。
PS5光驱短缺持续
正如前文所述，黄牛迅速察觉到PS5光驱作为PS5 Pro补充配件的需求增长，他们选择囤积光驱本身，而不是主机。索尼方面至今未就持续的短缺问题发表评论，许多玩家对此感到奇怪，尤其考虑到该公司在2020年疫情期间努力维持PS5产量的举动。
PS5 Pro缺乏内置光驱自9月份首次发布以来就一直备受争议，因为如果从索尼的一方渠道购买独立的PS5 Slim光驱，其价格已经额外增加了约80美元，这在其本身就相当高昂的价格之上。由于黄牛囤积这些光驱，导致价格飙升，许多PS5玩家目前别无选择，只能等待供应增加和需求下降——而这种情况似乎短期内不会发生。
