PlayStation Stars Loyalty Program Ends After Three Years

Jun 16,2025 Author: Benjamin

Sony has officially announced the discontinuation of its PlayStation Stars loyalty program, just under three years after its initial launch in July 2022.

As of today, the program no longer accepts new members. Additionally, any current member who cancels their membership will be permanently locked out from rejoining, with all accumulated reward points deleted upon cancellation.

Existing members can continue to earn points until July 23, 2025, and retain the ability to redeem their remaining balance until November 3, 2026.

Despite the program's conclusion, Sony confirmed that Digital Collectibles associated with PlayStation Stars will remain accessible for the foreseeable future. So, if you've collected a few unique items—like that one-of-a-kind 3D Jim Ryan bobblehead—you’ll still be able to view and enjoy them without immediate loss.

In an official statement posted on the PlayStation blog, Grace Chen, Vice President of Network Advertising, Loyalty, and Licensed Merchandise at PlayStation, explained the decision:

"Since launching the program, we've learned a lot from evaluating the types of activities our players respond best to, and as a company, we are always evolving with player and industry trends. Through this evaluation, we have decided to refocus our efforts and will be winding down the current version of PlayStation Stars. We will continue to evaluate our key findings from this program and are looking into ways to build upon these learnings."

At this time, Sony has not revealed a direct replacement for PlayStation Stars, nor has it disclosed specific insights gained from operating the program.

Originally introduced as a way to reward PS5 owners with redeemable points based on PlayStation Store spending and engagement activities—such as completing surveys or trying new games and features—PlayStation Stars was positioned as a competitor to Microsoft’s Xbox Rewards.

However, over time, both programs underwent significant changes that reduced their overall value to users. PlayStation Stars faced a temporary shutdown for about a month last summer due to service disruptions. Then in October, Sony implemented stricter point expiration rules (from 24 months to 12), and removed PlayStation Plus subscriptions from being eligible for point accumulation.

Now, the entire initiative is set to phase out completely, leaving players curious about what—if anything—may come next.
