Sydney Sweeney Stars in Split Fiction Film Adaptation

May 14,2025 Author: Mila

Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in *Madame Web*, is set to star in the movie adaptation of Hazelight's latest hit game, *Split Fiction*. The film project, which was reported to be in development last month, is now gaining momentum with Sweeney's involvement. The adaptation is being spearheaded by Story Kitchen, the studio behind the successful Sonic films, which is known for its expertise in turning video games into cinematic experiences.

The film's direction will be handled by Jon M. Chu, acclaimed for his work on *Wicked*, while the screenplay is penned by the dynamic duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, famous for their work on *Deadpool & Wolverine*. With such a talented team in place, Story Kitchen is now shopping this promising package to Hollywood studios, anticipating a competitive bidding war.

While Sweeney's role has not yet been finalized, the big question remains whether she will portray Zoe or Mio, the two sisters central to the *Split Fiction* narrative. Variety reports that this decision is still pending.

The game sold over 2 million copies within its first week and is set to be a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2. IGN's review praised *Split Fiction* with a score of 9/10, describing it as "an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another, a rollercoaster of constantly refreshed gameplay ideas and styles – and one that’s very hard to walk away from."

Hazelight's success extends beyond *Split Fiction*, as their 23 million-selling game *It Takes Two* is also slated for a movie adaptation, with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson rumored to star. While there's always a chance these projects may not come to fruition, the current wave of successful video game adaptations suggests that Hollywood is eager to capitalize on this trend.

Last year, Story Kitchen announced several other ambitious projects, including a film adaptation of Square Enix's *Just Cause*, directed by Ángel Manuel Soto of *Blue Beetle* fame. The company is also working on adaptations of *Dredge: The Movie*, *Kingmakers*, *Sleeping Dogs*, and even a live-action Toys 'R' Us movie. Meanwhile, Hazelight is already teasing its next game, keeping fans eagerly anticipating what's next from the studio.
