Pokemon TCG Pocket's Trading Feature Faces Backlash, Promising Improvements

Developer DeNA has pledged to revamp the trading system in Pokemon TCG Pocket following significant player criticism. The controversy centers around the recent trading feature update, released January 29, 2025.
High Cost of Trade Tokens Sparks Outrage

The new trading feature, while intended to aid Pokedex completion, has fallen short due to several limitations. Players can only trade 1-4 Diamond and 1-Star rarity cards from specific booster packs (Genetic Apex and Mythical Island). The primary complaint revolves around the exorbitant cost of trade tokens, the in-game currency required for trading. Acquiring sufficient tokens necessitates sacrificing higher-rarity cards, a process deemed inefficient and frustrating by many players. For example, trading a 4-Diamond card demands 500 tokens, while selling even higher-rarity cards yields significantly fewer.

DeNA acknowledged the negative feedback on February 1, 2025, via Twitter (X), stating they are actively working on solutions. These include exploring alternative methods of obtaining trade tokens, potentially through in-game events.

The developers justified the initial restrictions as a measure against bot abuse and multi-account exploitation, aiming to maintain a fair and enjoyable card-collecting experience. Further details on upcoming changes remain undisclosed.
Genetic Apex Booster Pack Accessibility Concerns

Following the January 29th release of the Space-Time Smackdown booster packs, some players reported the disappearance of the Genetic Apex packs from the main screen. This sparked concerns online, with players fearing the loss of the game's initial booster pack.

This issue stems from poor UI design; the "Select other booster packs" option is easily overlooked. While some players suspected a deliberate marketing tactic to promote newer packs, the situation highlights the need for clearer in-game navigation. Players can still access Genetic Apex packs, but improvements to the home screen are suggested to prevent future confusion. DeNA has not yet addressed this specific issue.
