Freedom Wars Overhauled: Enhanced Gameplay Revealed

Freedom Wars Remastered: Enhanced Gameplay and New Features Revealed

A new trailer for Freedom Wars Remastered showcases improved gameplay and control systems, offering a fresh look at this dystopian action RPG. Players will battle formidable mechanical creatures, upgrade their equipment, and tackle diverse missions within a resource-depleted world.

Bandai Namco's recently released trailer highlights significant enhancements. Beyond upgraded visuals, the game boasts refined balance adjustments, a challenging new difficulty setting, and various other feature updates. Freedom Wars Remastered launches January 10th on PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC.

Originally developed as a response to Capcom's shift of the Monster Hunter franchise to Nintendo consoles, Freedom Wars (for PS Vita) offered a similar gameplay loop, albeit in a futuristic setting. Players engage in combat against massive mechanical adversaries known as Abductors, collecting parts to upgrade their weaponry and gear, creating a compelling cycle of combat and progression.

The new trailer illustrates the core gameplay. It introduces the protagonist, a "Sinner" condemned for the crime of being born, thrust into a world grappling with resource scarcity. The Sinner's sentence involves completing missions for their Panopticon—their city-state. Missions vary, from citizen rescues and Abductor eliminations to capturing crucial control systems. These missions can be undertaken solo or cooperatively online.

Freedom Wars Remastered: Gameplay System Enhancements

The trailer details the improvements in Freedom Wars Remastered. Graphically, the game receives a significant boost, reaching 4K (2160p) resolution at 60 FPS on PS5 and PC. PS4 achieves 1080p at 60 FPS, while the Switch version runs at 1080p but at 30 FPS. Gameplay is faster-paced than the original, thanks to streamlined design and new mechanics such as increased movement speed and improved attack cancellation.

Crafting and upgrading have been completely revamped. The interfaces are more intuitive, and modules are now freely attachable and detachable. A new module synthesis feature allows players to enhance modules using resources gained from rescuing citizens. Finally, a "Deadly Sinner" difficulty mode caters to experienced players, and all original customization DLC from the PS Vita version is included from launch.
