Work on Steam FPS Game Paused Because Dev is Going to Prison for 3 Years

The Steam FPS title, Fortune's Run, faces an indefinite delay due to its sole developer, Dizzie, receiving a three-year prison sentence. This unexpected setback puts the game's early access progression on hold.

While early access delays are common on Steam, usually stemming from financial or technical issues, Fortune's Run's predicament is unique. Dizzie's incarceration halts all development. Prior to this news, Fortune's Run had garnered a "Very Positive" Steam rating, praised for its nostalgic art style and engaging gameplay.

Dizzie revealed the prison sentence in a January 14th Steam update, stating the crime predated Fortune's Run's development and occurred during a period of their life characterized by violence. Although the specifics of the crime remain undisclosed, this situation highlights an unusual cause for game development delays. While other game personalities have faced legal issues recently (e.g., streamer Johnny Somali), a prison sentence directly impacting a game's release is uncommon.

Originally, Fortune's Run had a second team member, but they departed after recovering from surgery and losing interest in game development. This leaves Dizzie as the sole developer, resulting in a complete development pause until their release in February 2025. The game's 2026 early access completion target is now highly unlikely. However, lengthy early access periods are not unprecedented in the indie game sphere (e.g., Satisfactory's five-year early access).

Dizzie assures fans that the game's completion is still intended upon release from prison. The current early access build remains playable, and players can explore other excellent early access shooters on Steam in the interim.
