Liam

As of now, Monster Hunter Wilds has not been officially released, so there is no confirmed list of starter weapons. However, based on the gameplay mechanics, progression systems, and design philosophy of previous Monster Hunter titles (especially Monster Hunter: World, Monster Hunter Rise, and the rumored direction of Wilds), we can make educated predictions about the best starter weapons when the game eventually launches. Here are the most likely top starter weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds, based on proven strengths and beginner-friendliness: 🏆 Best Starter Weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds (Predicted) 1. Longsword Why it's great for starters: Excellent mobility and combo potential with fast attacks and strong momentum. Guard and Counter system allows beginners to learn timing and spacing. High skill ceiling for future mastery, but easy to pick up. Great for learning monster patterns and safe-to-attack moments. Bonus: Can use Rushing Slash and Foresight to dodge and retaliate. Perfect for: Players who want to learn rhythm, timing, and defensive play. 2. Sword and Shield (S&S) Why it's great for starters: High defense and great defensive tools (Shield Attack, Guard, Parry). Fast and consistent damage with strong elemental options (e.g., Fire, Ice). Great for beginners who want to survive longer, especially in early hunts. Offers immediate feedback from successful blocks and counters. Bonus: The "Spinning Slash" and "Shield Bash" give powerful follow-ups. Perfect for: Players who want tanky gameplay, safe defense, and consistent damage. 3. Great Sword (if you’re into heavy-hitting) Why it might be a good starter (with caveats): Massive power and momentum – satisfying to use. Simple and direct, good for learning timing and monster stamina. Great for new players who enjoy "crunchy" attacks and big swings. Downsides: Slow, hard to dodge, and punishing if you miss. Best for: Players who want a brutal, high-reward playstyle and don’t mind learning to avoid swings. 4. Hammer (if you like big swings and pressure) Why it’s a solid starter in a wilder context: High knockback and elemental potential (especially with Dragon/Impact elements). Great for learning "crush" mechanics, which might be emphasized in Wilds’ open-world design. Strong early-game finisher if you land a full charge. Downsides: Slow, not great for dodging. Best for: Players who like heavy-hitting, brutal combos, and high risk/reward. ❌ Weapons to Avoid as a Starter (for now) Charge Blade / Insect Glaive / Hunting Horn: Too complex for beginners. Lance / Dual Blades: High skill ceiling; not ideal for first hunts. Bow / Bowgun: Require good aim and tracking — tough for new players. ✅ Final Recommendation: Start with Longsword or Sword and Shield Best all-rounder: Longsword – it teaches you movement, timing, and monster behavior while being powerful and fun. Best defensive starter: Sword and Shield – if you want to survive longer and learn safe attacks. 🔮 What Might Be Different in Monster Hunter Wilds? More open-world mechanics could favor mobility and environmental combat, which Longsword and S&S handle well. New stamina and movement systems might make weapons like Sword and Shield even more effective for reactive defense. Wilds may emphasize nature-based monsters, so elemental builds (like Ice, Water, or Thunder) in starter weapons could be powerful. 📌 Summary: Best Starter Weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds (Predicted) Weapon Why It’s Great Best For 🔹 Longsword Great flow, combos, and skill growth Learning timing, rhythm, and monster patterns 🔹 Sword and Shield High defense, safe, strong counters Defensive play, survival, consistent damage 🔹 Great Sword High power, simple but risky Big swings, heavy hitters 🔹 Hammer High knockback, great finisher Brutal play, elemental focus ✅ Pro Tip: Try both Longsword and S&S in your first few hunts to see which playstyle you enjoy most — then build from there! Stay tuned for official updates when Monster Hunter Wilds launches in 2025 (expected). Until then, master the Longsword or Sword and Shield, and you’ll be hunting like a pro in no time. 🐉⚔️ Let me know if you’d like a starter build (elemental, armor, skills) based on your chosen weapon!
