Nintendo to Hike Switch 1, Online Prices in Canada

Nintendo has announced an imminent price adjustment for the original Switch console in Canada, leading many fans to anticipate a cost increase for the eight-year-old system.
A notice from Nintendo of Canada indicates the new pricing will be detailed later today, July 1, as the official Canadian online store updates its listings.
The company briefly explained that the change is "based on market conditions," offering no further specifics.
Nintendo confirmed the recently launched Switch 2 will not be affected, but all original Switch models—including the standard, Lite, and OLED versions—will see price changes.
The adjustment will also apply to physical and digital Switch games and accessories, which will impact Switch 2 owners due to the widespread cross-compatibility of software and peripherals.
Additionally, Nintendo Switch Online memberships and amiibo figures will be included in the price revision. Canadian users may want to renew their subscriptions before the increases take effect.
Like many nations, Canada faces economic fluctuations influenced by recent U.S. tariff policies. Before the Switch 2 launch, Nintendo temporarily halted North American pre-orders to assess tariff impacts, later announcing price hikes on certain Switch 2 accessories.
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa previously noted that tariffs could reduce profits by "tens of billions of yen," but warned that raising the Switch 2 price directly could dampen consumer demand.
Many speculate that adjusting prices for the older Switch lineup and online services serves as a strategic alternative to raising the Switch 2 price shortly after its release, avoiding potential negative publicity.
