God of War Ragnarok's Steam Reviews Mixed Amid PSN Requirement Controversy

God of War Ragnarok's PC release on Steam has sparked controversy, resulting in a mixed user review score. Many fans are review-bombing the game due to Sony's controversial requirement to link a PlayStation Network (PSN) account.

Mixed Reception on Steam

Launched last week, God of War Ragnarok currently holds a 6/10 user rating on Steam. The negative reviews stem largely from the mandatory PSN account linking, a decision that has bewildered and angered many players.

Some users report successfully playing the game without linking their PSN accounts, highlighting inconsistencies in the requirement's implementation. One review states, "The PSN requirement is frustrating, but I played fine without logging in. It's a shame; these reviews unfairly hurt an amazing game." Another user described technical issues, stating, "The PSN requirement ruined the experience. The game crashed to a black screen after login, yet it registered 1 hour 40 minutes of playtime—absurd!"

Despite the negative reviews, positive feedback exists, praising the game's story and gameplay. One positive review attributes the negative ratings solely to Sony's PSN decision, stating, "The story is fantastic. The negative reviews are mostly about PSN. Sony needs to address this; otherwise, the PC port is excellent."

Sony's Past PSN Requirement Backlash

This isn't Sony's first encounter with PSN requirement backlash. Helldivers 2 faced similar criticism, prompting Sony to reverse its decision and remove the requirement. Whether Sony will respond similarly to the God of War Ragnarok situation remains to be seen.
