Divinity Original Sin 2: Where To Find Blackroot

Quick Links

In Divinity: Original Sin 2, the Blackroot is one of the most vital herbs you'll encounter in Rivellon. Essential for the Miester's Ritual in Act 4, guided by Miester Siva, you'll need to craft a special Ritual Bowl. This involves combining a ritual bowl, a bloody obsidian lancet, and the crucial Blackroot to gain entry into the Hall of Echoes and subsequently unlock the Night Vision skill.

The first instance of this ritual provides all necessary ingredients in Siva's basement. However, subsequent rituals, triggered by earning a Source point, require you to source these items yourself. While obtaining a ritual bowl and an obsidian lancet is usually straightforward, finding Blackroot can be tricky. If you're struggling to locate it, this guide will be your ally.

Venture Into Cloisterwood

Cloisterwood, a dense forest in the northwestern part of Reaper's Coast, is just a short trek north of Driftwood. Once immersed in the forest, use the left ALT key to highlight all available pickups.

You'll soon come across various herbs, including Blackroots, near the base of trees. Though only one Blackroot is needed for the ritual, it's wise to gather several as a precaution. Without revealing too much, know that you can perform the ritual each time you earn a Source point.

Cloisterwood Exploration Tips

Cloisterwood is brimming with hidden secrets, including two NPCs who can each grant you a Source point, an undead trader, and a formidable witch who poses a significant challenge.

Hannag and Jahan are the two NPCs capable of helping you gain Source points, with Jahan also playing a role in Lohse's storyline. Hidden in some ruins, you'll find Eithne, an undead trader. Engage with Eithne and select the "Divine Order" option to embark on a side quest.

Further north in Cloisterwood, you'll reach a pier where the Dead Ferryman NPC offers passage to Bloodmoon Island. These are just a few of the notable encounters in Cloisterwood. The forest holds more secrets, like the Wrecker's Cave and a unique loremaster amulet, which you can acquire by conversing with the spirit of a ship captain. If you're exploring Cloisterwood for the first time, take the time to thoroughly investigate the area. It's advisable to steer clear of the crucified witch Alice Alisceon until you reach at least level 15.
