Jenna Ortega on MCU Role: 'They Cut All My Lines'

Do you remember seeing Jenna Ortega in Iron Man 3? You might have missed her brief appearance in the film, where she played a young girl in a wheelchair. The 22-year-old star, known for her roles in Netflix's Wednesday and the upcoming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice movie, made her film debut at the age of 11 in this minor role back in 2013.

In Iron Man 3, Ortega's character is the daughter of Vice President Rodriguez, played by Miguel Ferrer. The scene features a family Christmas gathering where Rodriguez kisses his daughter on the forehead, and the camera pans down to reveal her in a wheelchair due to a lost limb.

Now, over a decade later, Ortega reflected on her MCU experience in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. She humorously noted that her role was significantly reduced, saying, "I did it once. It was one of the first jobs I ever did. They took all my lines out. I’m in Iron Man 3 for a quick second. I take up the frame, I have one leg and I’m the vice president’s daughter."

Her Death of a Unicorn co-star, Paul Rudd, who plays Ant-Man in the MCU, playfully suggested that Marvel might create a bigger role for her in the future, stating, "And so it might very well be that you come back, that they are going to create something for you, ’cause they should be so lucky to have Jenna Ortega in their franchise."

Ortega, however, cast doubt on the possibility, adding, "They even took my name away. I’m really… but I just… I count that, and then I move on."

Despite her minor role in Iron Man 3, Ortega's career has soared, making her one of the most recognized actors today. If Marvel were to consider bringing her back into the MCU, it's likely she would be open to the opportunity.

Iron Man 3, while considered one of the weaker entries in the MCU, was a massive success at the box office, grossing $1.2 billion worldwide. It ranks as the ninth highest-grossing superhero film, surpassing films like Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Captain Marvel.

The landscape of superhero movies has evolved since then, with current films facing stiffer competition at the box office. If Ortega were to join the MCU today, her star power could potentially boost Marvel's box office performance. But the question remains: which character would she be perfect for?
