Robert Eggers to Write and Direct Labyrinth Sequel

Robert Eggers, fresh off his gothic horror film Nosferatu, is set to direct a sequel to the beloved fantasy classic, Labyrinth.

According to Variety, Eggers will pen the script and helm this follow-up to Jim Henson's 1986 dark fantasy film starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly. He'll collaborate on the screenplay with Sjón, his writing partner on The Northman. While a sequel was previously in development with Scott Derrickson (director of Sinister) attached, lack of progress led TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures to enlist Eggers.

The original 1986 Labyrinth featured Bowie as the Goblin King Jareth, who abducts Connelly's baby brother. Connelly's character then embarks on a perilous journey through a fantastical realm, aided by a troupe of Henson's iconic puppets, to rescue her sibling.

This Labyrinth sequel isn't Eggers' only project. He's also directing a werewolf film titled Werwulf, slated for a Christmas 2026 release. Details are scarce, but the film is set in 13th-century England and will utilize Old English dialogue. A transformation into a lupine creature is, presumably, on the cards.

Eggers' Nosferatu, a remake of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent film, was released last Christmas. Set in 19th-century Germany, it follows a real estate agent who travels to Transylvania to broker a deal with a mysterious count, only to find himself and his wife ensnared in a web of vampiric horror.
