Greta Gerwig's Narnia Reboot Casts Carey Mulligan

Barbie writer-director Greta Gerwig continues to expand the cast for her upcoming Chronicles of Narnia reboot, with acclaimed actress Carey Mulligan now confirmed to join the ensemble.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed Mulligan's involvement alongside fellow cast members Daniel Craig, Emma Mackey, and screen legend Meryl Streep.

Gerwig will serve as both writer and director for this fresh interpretation of C.S. Lewis' beloved fantasy book series.

The film will specifically adapt the series' origin story, "The Magician's Nephew," which takes place before the events of the most famous Narnia adventure, "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe."

Mulligan, an Oscar, BAFTA, and Golden Globe-nominated performer, is reportedly cast as Mabel Kirke, the mother of the story's young protagonist, Digory.

Daniel Craig will portray the film's title character, Digory's magician uncle, while Emma Mackey will play a younger incarnation of the villainous White Witch. Meryl Streep will provide the voice for Aslan, the divine, talking lion central to the series.

This project marks a new chapter for the Narnia franchise, which previously saw a film trilogy released between 2005 and 2010 adapting the first three books.

The earlier films featured Tilda Swinton as the White Witch and Liam Neeson voicing Aslan.

Gerwig's Narnia film will be her first major directorial effort following the massive commercial and critical success of 2023's "Barbie," which earned eight Oscar nominations and won for Best Original Song.

"The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew" is currently scheduled for a 2026 release.
