According to Deadline, Warner Bros.' previously shelved film Coyote vs. Acme might hit the screens after all. Los Angeles-based Ketchup Entertainment is reportedly in advanced negotiations to acquire the movie, which was thought to be permanently scrapped. While the deal isn't finalized yet, a theatrical release could be expected in 2026 if it goes through.
Coyote vs. Acme, announced in 2022 and inspired by a 1990 Ian Frazier New Yorker article, boasts a screenplay co-written by James Gunn and features stars Will Forte and John Cena. Originally slated for a mid-2023 release on Max, the film was completed but shelved, sparking a persistent campaign to save it.
Ketchup Entertainment recently saved another Warner Bros. project, *The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie*, from a similar fate. By securing its theatrical release in the US, Ketchup ensured the film became the first fully animated Looney Tunes movie to grace cinema screens. IGN's review hailed it as a "laugh-out-loud riot."
Ketchup Entertainment's portfolio includes films like Hellboy: The Crooked Man and the Robert Rodriguez thriller Hypnotic, starring Ben Affleck. The company also co-produced Michael Mann's 2023 Ferrari biopic.
