While Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings movies are widely celebrated, they weren't the first to bring J.R.R. Tolkien's epic tale to the screen. The initial cinematic journey into Middle-earth was with the animated adaptation of "The Hobbit" in 1977, followed closely by the 1978 animated version of "The Lord of the Rings." Whether you're a long-time fan or just discovering these classics, there's exciting news: the remastered deluxe edition of the 1978 "Lord of the Rings" animated movie is currently available on Amazon for the unbeatable price of just $5.
The 1978 rendition of "The Lord of the Rings" is a unique blend of traditional cel animation and rotoscoped live-action footage. A charming quirk in the film is a scene where Aragorn unexpectedly trips and falls; this wasn't scripted but captured and animated, adding to the movie's charm and authenticity. This remastered DVD version, now at such a steep discount, is a must-have for any collector or fan of the series, even if it's just to sit alongside your other Lord of the Rings Blu-rays. If you're hunting for more deals, don't miss out on the ongoing Amazon Presidents' Day sale.
If $5 is still out of your budget, you're in luck! You can stream the 1978 "Lord of the Rings" movie online on Max, where you'll also find the entire Lord of the Rings series, including the animated "Hobbit" movie.
Whether you choose to purchase the DVD at this incredible price or opt for streaming, now is a great time to delve into or revisit the enchanting world of Tolkien's Middle-earth through its earliest cinematic interpretations.
