Alienware has kicked off 2025 with a bang, unveiling its new mainstream gaming laptop lineup, aptly named the "Alienware Aurora". The initial 16" models are now up for grabs at Dell. Let's dive into what these new machines bring to the table.
Starting with the more budget-friendly option, the Alienware Aurora 16, which retails at $1,949.99, comes equipped with an Intel Core Ultra Series 2 i9-270H CPU and a GeForce RTX 4050 GPU with an 85W TGP. On the other end of the spectrum, the higher-end Alienware Aurora 16X, priced at $2,299.99, boasts an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU and a GeForce RTX 5070 GPU with a beefier 115W TGP. Both models are slated to start shipping in mid-June. For those eyeing the RTX 5060 graphics, those options are currently on preorder, awaiting the release of the GPU itself.

The Alienware Aurora laptops mark a departure from the typical gamer aesthetic seen in other Alienware offerings, such as the recently released Area-51. These new models adopt a more subdued, yet sleek design, resembling standard laptops with a slim profile and minimal RGB lighting. The Aurora 16, for instance, features only white keyboard illumination, reminiscent of Apple MacBooks. However, don't let the unassuming exterior fool you; these machines are packed with gaming power, featuring robust Cryo Chamber dual fan and copper heatpipe cooling systems. The Aurora 16 is slightly thinner and lighter, thanks to more efficient components like its low voltage Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU and the RTX 5070 graphics with an 85W TGP. The Aurora 16X, while a bit thicker and heavier, accommodates more intensive cooling to support its more powerful Intel Core Ultra 9 HX series processor and the RTX 5070 with a maxed-out 115W TGP.
Both the Aurora 16 and 16X are significantly more affordable than the new Alienware Area-51, which starts at over $3,000. They are also much more portable, weighing up to 1.6 pounds less and being up to 30% thinner than a comparable Area-51 16" model. Given the potential upward trend in Nvidia GPU prices, as reported by Tom's Hardware, don't expect these prices to drop anytime soon.
For gamers in search of a robust mobile desktop replacement, the Alienware Aurora 16X is the clear choice. The additional $300 investment brings a host of upgrades that justify the price premium. Here's what you get:
