Retro handheld console maker Anbernic has temporarily halted all orders to the United States.
As reported by The Verge, the company cited "changes in U.S. tariff policies" and advised customers to "prioritize items shipped from our U.S. warehouse, which are currently unaffected by import duties and can be purchased with confidence." Shipments originating from China will not be processed.
Anbernic is widely recognized for its affordable Chinese-made Game Boy replicas, which are usually drop-shipped from China upon release, with additional stock later stored in U.S. warehouses.
On its website, Anbernic allows buyers to select between U.S. or Chinese shipping, though not every product is available from the U.S. This means certain devices, such as the Anbernic RG CubeXX and the RG 406H, will no longer be accessible to U.S. customers.
The Trump administration has enforced tariffs of up to 145% on Chinese imports, warning that levies on some goods—such as electric vehicles—could reach 245% when combined with existing taxes. While some companies in the supply chain may absorb these expenses, the costs are usually passed on to consumers. Unfortunately for gamers, increasing prices are already affecting tech and gaming products, including Nintendo Switch 2 accessories and gaming laptops.
Anbernic stated it is "working to find a suitable solution" for customers charged customs fees "during this transitional phase."
Nintendo officially introduced the Switch 2 in a 60-minute Nintendo Direct earlier this month. Although pre-orders were initially scheduled to begin in early April in the U.S., tariff uncertainty in both the U.S. and Canada led Nintendo to postpone the pre-order date to April 24. While delaying, Nintendo maintained the $449.99 price for the Switch 2 console and games but increased prices on most Switch 2 accessories.
