Ant-Man Star Michael Douglas Says He's 'Had the Experience' of Marvel, Now Unlikely to Return as Hank Pym

Ant-Man star and veteran actor Michael Douglas has said he’s likely finished with the MCU, following his four big-screen appearances as the shrinking scientist Hank Pym.

Douglas has appeared in all three Ant-Man films released so far, including the 2023 poorly received Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, after also featuring in Avengers: Endgame.

But as Avengers: Doomsday begins filming, will Marvel fans see Hank Pym one final time? According to Douglas, it’s unlikely.

Play"I don't think so," Douglas told Deadline when asked if he’d return for another Marvel project. "I had the experience, and I was excited to do it."

Douglas has mostly stepped back from acting, with Marvel roles being his only big-screen appearances in recent years. At the same time, he’s continued working as a producer, with over a dozen credits to his name.

"I'd never done a green screen film before," Douglas added, reflecting on his Marvel work. "But I’m enjoying my break and my life. Juggling a production company and acting was overwhelming."

Douglas has previously expressed his wish for Hank Pym to meet his end in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, bringing the character’s story to a close while raising the stakes for Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man. Marvel executives, however, chose a different path.

Quantumania’s box office performance has cast doubt on the future of the Ant-Man franchise, but Rudd has already been confirmed to return in Avengers: Doomsday.

As for the rest of the Ant-Man family — Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer’s Janet Van Dyne, and Evangeline Lilly’s Hope Van Dyne — don’t count on it. In June 2024, Lilly announced she’s stepping away from acting to focus on her family, making a Wasp appearance in Avengers: Doomsday unlikely as well.

So, what will be in Avengers: Doomsday? Well, earlier this week the internet caught a glimpse of footage that appeared to have leaked from the film’s set, hinting at the return of a surprising location from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
