Ubisoft's latest addition to the iconic stealth-action open-world series, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has finally arrived. As fans dive into the adventures of Naoe and Yasuke set in 16th-century Japan, the big question on everyone's mind is: Where does it stand among its predecessors? With over 30 titles released under the Assassin’s Creed banner, we're focusing solely on the mainline games for this ranking—no mobile, side-scrolling, VR entries, or spin-offs like Bloodlines or Liberation included.
The journey began in 2007 with Desmond Miles exploring the memories of his ancestor Altaïr through the Animus. Now, 18 years later, Assassin’s Creed Shadows marks the 14th entry in this core series. I've taken the liberty of ranking these games according to my personal enjoyment, using an IGN Tier List format. Take a peek at my tier list below:

In my S-tier, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag reigns supreme, cherished for its blend of island exploration, ship combat, and vibrant characters. It's joined by Assassin’s Creed 2, the game that truly thrust the series into the spotlight. My A-tier includes Valhalla, which might raise some eyebrows, but the Viking-inspired combat and the addictive Orlog minigame won me over. Unity also makes the cut, thanks to its breathtaking recreation of Revolutionary France.
Do you disagree with my rankings? Do you find Valhalla too sprawling? Or perhaps you believe Assassin’s Creed 2 is overrated? Now's your chance to create your own tier list and compare your S, A, B, C, and D rankings with the entire IGN community.
