Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 Out Now!
Steam Player Count Goes Up After Patch 8 Release
Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) has released its eagerly awaited final patch, marking the end of its monumental journey. On April 15, 2025, Larian Studios unveiled BG3’s Patch 8, the last major update for the game. Following the patch's release, BG3 experienced a significant increase in player numbers, jumping from around 60,000 concurrent players to over 169,000, positioning it just outside Steam's top 10 most played games.
Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke highlighted the player surge on Twitter (X) on April 22, attributing it to the game's robust mod support. This allows Larian to shift focus to their next ambitious project. It was previously announced that Larian Studios will step away from the Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) Universe to explore new creative ventures.
With Larian Studios moving on, Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro, the owners of D&D, are set to continue the Baldur’s Gate series. They are currently negotiating with other studios to potentially develop Baldur’s Gate 4.
12 New Subclasses, Photo Mode, and More!

Patch 8, announced back in November 2024 via a Steam blog post, has been meticulously crafted to enhance the BG3 experience. This final update introduces 12 new subclasses, a photo mode, cross-play functionality, and numerous other features. Larian Studios has provided a comprehensive breakdown of the patch's contents on the BG3 website, which also includes an extensive list of bug fixes and combat balance adjustments, ensuring the game's final iteration is polished to perfection.
Larian Studios has invested heavily in refining BG3, evident from the extensive updates and fixes in this last patch. While this marks their final major update, they remain committed to supporting the game's modding community.
